We are Derry Malsch and Kate Hulpke, from Eugene, Oregon.  We like to travel, hike, snorkel, and camp, among other things.  (And Kate loves to cook.)

We started this blog in Fall 2007 right before leaving on a nine-month trip around the world, as a way for family and friends to share our adventures.

We’re back in Eugene now, but you can still partake of all the amazing places we visited. Going backward through time…

That’s not EVERY single thing we wrote, but it is all the posts about places, with pictures. You can navigate to some other random entries via “Recent Posts” or “Archives” (both in the sidebar).

BTW:  Yes, Oregon is beautiful and green, but no, that’s not it pictured above.  That’s the Limahuli Botanical Preserve on Kaua’i, Hawai’i, where we labored with Wilderness Volunteers for a week in September 2007.  Afterwards we backpacked for five days on the Na Pali Coast; in fact if you look closely at our header photo, you can just make out Derry clinging to the cliff-side trail.  Quite the warm-up for further adventures…

I was out surfing and stumbled across your blog.

What a journey you two have been on! You both look very happy and I am happy for you! While you have been adventuring, I’ve been slaving away in the machine of corporate America, but lately I’ve been having a strong pull to get back to the realm of quantum physics to see what all advances have been made in the past decade. I was happy to see Amit in “What the Bleep Do We Know!?” I’ll have to see if the cobwebs will all dust off my gray matter!

Anyhoos… hope all’s well with you & yours and may this message find you both in good health and good spirits.

    Take care,

    Dan
